Tips for Closing Out Your Homeschool Year

Around this time of year, I hear a collective sigh of relief from all the homeschool parents out there.

Whether it’s for 3 weeks or 3 months, most homeschoolers take a break in the summer. Time to enjoy some much-needed rest and relaxation! Time to just enjoy your kids and have fun.

It’s important that we do take a break from it all to step back and get a breath of fresh air before diving in again. God created 1 day of rest each week, and I believe that we also need a season of rest each year as well.

Do something fun and enjoy every minute of it, because before we know it, the new school year will be upon us.

Make sure you finish organizing last year’s schoolwork and put it away before really calling it quits.

Perhaps even jot down some notes about how the school year went before you forget. Yes, writing it down now while it’s fresh in your memory will help you when it’s time to start planning for next year.

These are some of the items that you might want to write down:

  1. General notes about how the year went
  2. Notes about each child’s strengths and weaknesses
  3. Notes about your own strengths and weaknesses
  4. Ideas about the curriculum and resources you used and how well you and your child liked them
  5. How well you balanced homeschooling, household duties, and everything else
  6. Spiritual growth of you and each of your children

Here at Diligent Homeschool, we can help you simplify your homeschool recordkeeping so you’ll be more organized, relieving some of that burden of feeling overwhelmed with everything.
